About Qtum

Empowering decentralized innovation with a hybrid blockchain combining Bitcoin security and Ethereum programmability.

Mission
To bridge the gap between Bitcoin's secure UTXO model and Ethereum's smart contract flexibility, delivering a robust blockchain platform for enterprise and developer use.
Vision
To foster a scalable, secure, and efficient blockchain ecosystem that enables innovation across finance, AI, gaming, and beyond — all while embracing open-source principles and community governance.
History
Qtum was founded in 2016 with the vision of bridging Bitcoin's security with Ethereum's smart contract capabilities. The project raised $15.6 million in its ICO in March 2017, and the mainnet was launched in September 2017. Since then, Qtum has continuously evolved, adding features like the Account Abstraction Layer (AAL), Decentralized Governance Protocol (DGP), and support for Bitcoin Ordinals.
Governance
Qtum operates with decentralized governance by stakeholders (DGS), allowing community members and token holders to participate in important network decisions, proposals, and upgrades through voting mechanisms. The Decentralized Governance Protocol enables parameter changes without requiring hard forks.
